The first three Ultimas were written when computer games were very primitive compared to todays games. All 3 games have black and white or monochrome graphics.

    Ultima III was the first Ultima to have music, though the pc version didn't have music, unfortunately. The first Ultima to have music on the pc version was Ultima VI. Though music in the early Ultimas is not as good as in later Ultimas, its still excellent for the time. See my links section for sites where you can hear Ultima music.

    The stories are very simplistic and, basically involve completeing various quests, and defeating the big evil guy.

    In the first three Ultimas you play as a stranger from another world, you don't become the avatar untill Ultima IV.

    In Ultima I the kingdom of Britania has not yet been created, instead the land is known as Sosaria and, consists of 8 different regions. Only one of these regions is ruled by Lord British.

    Sosaria is under threat from the evil Mondain, who is immortal. As Mondains power increases so terror and evil grows ever greater.

    Summoned by Lord British a stranger appears, his quest to defeat the evil Mondain and save Sosaria.

    Once again, Sosaria is under attack from the forces of evil, led by the enchantress Minax.

    Minax was the apprentice and lover of Mondain, now her one desire is to avenge his death and wreak havoc upon the world. More powerful than Mondain, Minax is able to command vast legions of foul beasts, and creatures of evil.

    Once again Lord British summons the stranger to save Sosaria.

    Sosaria has now been united under the benevolent rule of Lord British.

    A mysterious island suddenly appears, dark forces of evil emanate from it. Once more the land is under attack by an evil enemy.

    Exodus, the product of the union between Mondain and Minax has arisen. Neither man nor machine, the powers of Exodus are dark and immense.

    Lord British sends out a call for aid, this time four strangers appear to save Sosaria.
