Trinsic is on the southeast coast of the mainland of Britannia, to the south of Britain and the village of Paws. Trinsic is dedicated to the virtue of honour, and paladins are often to be found here. Trinsic is an active port, and is surrounded by walls, with each one of the gates permanently guarded. The guards will not allow anyone to enter or leave unless they know the password. In Ultima VII the password is Blackbird. The pubs in Trinsic are said by some to sell the best beer in Britannia. When the great cataclysm hit Britannia the walled city of Trinsic was destroyed, but it was rebuilt as an city with many bridges and canals.
![]() The small village of Paws is halfway between Britain and Trinsic, near the Fens of the Dead. Paws used to be bordered by marshland on it's southern side but, during the period before the Avatars final adventure in Britannia Paws was completely destroyed by a great cataclysm. Now only a few huts remain surrounded by foul smelling marshes. Paws has always been a usefull resting place for travellers on the road between Britain and Trinsic, somewhere to change horses or eat. During the period of the rise of the Fellowship Paws had just suffered a drought lasting seven years and there was much poverty with the lack of rain having badly affected the farms of Paws. The Fellowship ran a shelter for the poor at this time. In Ultima IX, Paws is where anyone who is disabled is sent, those who are blind, sick or considered in some way imperfect are sent from their homes in Britain to Paws, how could Lord British allow such a travesty of the virtues? Such behaviour is a complete contradiction of the virtue of compassion, virtue of the town of Britain, and what of our liege, was he unaware or just uncaring and uninterested? During the period of Ultima IX, even the ill are sent from Britain to live or die abandoned in the stinking bogs of Paws, struggling to survive in rat infested shacks, while those considered able to contribute to society and not be a burden remain in Britain. Truly such behaviour is the very opposite of compassion. This policy was supported by the Mayor of Britain at this time, untill his own daughter became ill and was exiled to Paws, but it seems that it was the Guardian and the eight black pillars that influenced the people to forget the virtues to such an extent. |
